G-Ma Has Cancer

Your Story
In March I noticed this little bitty lump in my left breast. I had a history of fatty tissue in my breast so was not too concerned, plus I had my annual mammogram 8 months prior to this and all was clear. I have all ways been faithful to annual mammograms and preach it to my beautiful daughter-in-laws. I have been blessed with 5 son's but no daughters. Cancer runs in my family.  The day I went in for my mammogram they did a biopsy the same day. I was told I had early stage cancer and would do fine. More test and then surgery soon followed, I was blessed in having a lumpectomy and did fine. I think it was the most difficult for the men in my life, my adorable husband, my son's and my Dad. Men want to fix everything for us and they could not fix this for me. I reassured my 15 grandchildren G-Ma would be fine as it was early stage and God was looking out for me. Or as one of my beautiful grandson put it, "G-Ma has a mild case of cancer". Soon after surgery I had 7 weeks of radiation. This was not near as bad as I had thought it might be. Today August 2, 2013 was my last radiation treatment. As odd as it may sound I feel I am stronger and more confident after this long journey. I believe God has an awesome plan for my life and he is opening many doors for me. I am now sharing my journey with other women in hopes it gives them the strength to fight the fight. I am speaking to women's groups of my cancer experience and my life experience with the death of one of our son's and and difficult journey I have lived. However when ever I look up there is our wonderful God with his arms around me. A survivor, G-Ma Sharon
